Competition Or Collaboration?
Asking — and answering — life's interesting questions

As the saying goes, if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
In other words, competition is great for maximizing individual performance. But collaboration opens the door to so much more.
I work in the housing justice arena. In order to win on an issue (e.g., gain greater privacy protections for renters, secure millions of dollars to build affordable housing) requires both collaboration and competition. The coalitions we build must be coordinated, large, and broad enough to achieve our goals in the face of opposition or competition. The larger our goals, the more coordinated, large, and broad we must be to win against the forces working against us.
