  1. Try as I might to see the winter solstice as a good thing, I can’t escape the fact that it is the darkest day of the year, and there are months of darkness accompanied by the cold that remain ahead. Summer solstice wins in my book.

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever officially celebrated the summer solstice, while in several years I have organized parties to recognize winter solstice, so I think that wins it for me.

But really, the two are sort of a yin-yang for me. As nice as the summer solstice can be, weather wise, for me its always twinged with dread, knowing that we are beginning the long, slow slide into darkness and cold. And while I don’t like the cold and darkness that December brings, especially with anticipation of January and February ahead, the knowledge that things are improving sustains me through the winter.
