I’m not the biggest fan of Holiday music. But I have a few standouts:
1. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, as performed by Phoebe Bridgers
2. Angels We Have Heard on High, as performed by David Ian and Acacia
3. The Little Drummer Boy (I like many artists’ performances)
I’m not a religious person, so the more heavily religious carols I find tend to dislike. In general, I’m more of a fan of those songs that celebrate the air of happiness and generosity that often go hand-in-hand with this time of year.
With that in mind, my favorite is simply titled “The Christmas Song” but is more familiarly known by it’s first line, “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”. It also helps that my vocal range matches that of the song, so I can sing it well without any vocal stress or strain.
I also tend to like “The Twelve Days of Christmas” although I understand why many people find it repetitive. I particularly like the message of giving inherent in the song.
I also enjoy the nearly endless ways people have found to reimagine it. It really seems to bring out creativity in songwriters and singers, which I love.
