My wife Marsha will only listen to Christmas music for a very narrow window — around a week or so prior to December 25th. I like Christmas music, and I would listen to it more if I could.
As an atheist, I prefer secular songs, about winter or Santa or cheer and happiness. Bonus points for funny.
Most years, as Christmas is approaching, I listen to Vince Guaraldi’s album “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” David Ian’s song “Angels We Have Heard on High (feat. Acacia),” U2’s cover of “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home),” and a few Christmas songs by Phoebe Bridgers. On Christmas Eve, Rebecca and I turn on the TV “program” of the yule log burning, accompanied by various quality Christmas songs.
Nope. I sang Christmas music in multiple choirs/choruses over multiple decades. I’m over it. And as an atheist, I eventually got tired of pretending the religious ones were exalting.
