My wife and I have been living in the same place for 19 years now. We know three neighbors by name, and a handful of others by sight. By now, I feel like we should be more a part of the neighborhood than we are.
Rebecca and I have very good relationships with our neighbors, and not just the ones immediately to our right and left. We know folks from two houses down on both sides, one who shares an unimproved alleyway with us, and we just had an ice cream gathering which incorporated two neighbors from across the street.
As neighbors, we often help each other with shoveling or snow blowing snow. We frequently text each other. And some are even Facebook friends.
