On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong. Best book I’ve read in a long, long time.
“What Are People For?” by a modern day agrarian, Wendell Berry, is filled with several amazing essays. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve read “The Pleasures of Eating.”
The Gospel According to Mark. I recommend it because it’s the shortest of the Four Gospels – only 36 pages in my Bible. A former pastor of mine said he read it when he he had a big life decision facing him. If you’re not in a hurry, I recommend the other Gospels as well. I believe our Creator speaks to me through them.
Tom: While I am an atheist, I’d recommend Matthew or Luke for no other reason that that’s where the Beatitudes are. While there are parts of it I don’t believe in, I do believe there are some great instructions on how to treat and care for one another.
Thanks for responding, Michael. The Beatitudes are also important to me. If I’m not mistaken, they are read in my church every year on my birthday, November 1st, All Saints Day.
