Cribbage
I prefer the card game Spades.
I find that there is sufficient variety in the hands that are dealt; I like the collaborative nature of the teams; there is both strategy and luck involved; it is easy to explain but has enough strategy involved to keep it from growing old. The only downside, I find, is that you need a group of four (or multiples of four) to play, so it is a bit rigid in that regard.
Double Deck Pinochle is my favorite, although it is difficult to find people who play. I learned my freshman year in college (50 years ago). Spades comes in a quick second, but I also like Euchre and Cribbage. My family used to play cards a lot as I was growing up and my Dad was a shark! I miss those games around the dining room table.
