For quite a while now, I’ve been surprised that more attention isn’t paid to local politics. While what happens at the national level is given the most attention, many of the things that impact our day-to-day lives (roads we drive on, trash pick-up, school management, etc.) are controlled at the city level.
Of course, I’m not immune. I make sure to vote in local elections whenever one is held (and do whatever research I can on the candidates), but I couldn’t tell you the name of the town representative from my district. Or, in fact, any local politician other than town mayor.
So my vote goes for local, which gets less attention than it deserves.
