Debate Or Conversation?

My take on it: I think conversation is better for communication and persuasion. But there is a primal part of the human mind that wants to be right, and defaults to debate in an attempt to show it.
In my line of work, persuading people is key. So I go with conversation.
I’m not a fan of debating. There is too much effort and emotion involved to prove one is right in their opinion. And you are wrong no matter what you think.
Whereas in a conversation each is able to express their opinion and feels heard without judgment. And perhaps might open the others mind about the topic at hand.
