Since I’m on day 869 of a running streak, running is my obvious answer. It doesn’t require much equipment or time relative to other sports, and I can do it almost anywhere. Plus I like running marathons.
My answer has changed over the years. Once upon a time it would have been inline skating. In yet another decade, weights.
Running used to be my go-to exercise. I love to run, but injuries plague me when I do it as much as I’d like. So now, daily walking (45 minutes) at a decent pace on my treadmill at a 15% incline has to do the trick.
My go-to exercise is bicycling. But what else would you expect from someone who biked across the US?

Biking when it’s over 50 degrees or so. Geocaching when it’s below 50 but not ridiculously cold or excessively snowy. Walking at a minimum.
Push-ups, sit-ups, and stretching.
Gardening and hiking/walking.
Walking in winter, outside if possible. Golf the rest of the year.
Walking in good weather. DVDs other days.
I do several things in rotation:
Biking outside or on the stationary bike in the basement – once a week or so
Running or walking, again inside or outside: roughly 5K 3-4 times a week
Some abs/core work to keep my back healthy and pain free (pushups and planks, crunches)
