The Incredibles
The answer is probably a Pixar film, because they are just so darned good. WALL-E, Up, and any of the Toy Story films come to mind immediately.
I’m also a big fan of Aardman animation, and I’d happily watch any of the Wallace & Gromit films, and I think Shaun the Sheep is brilliant (be it the TV show or the movie).
For a completely different flavor, I love Japanese films like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, or Spirited Away.
And I have a soft spot for the Disney “comeback” that started with The Little Mermaid, and included Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King.
That’s not even including things that are one-offs like The Nightmare Before Christmas or Isle of Dogs. Or Dreamworks films like the Shrek movies, How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and so on. The Lego Movie was surprisingly good for Warner Animation, as well.
Geez, there are a lot of good animated films.
If I’m forced to pick just one, I’d probably go with one of the Wallace and Gromit short films, because I return to them over and over, and I never get tired of them. The Wrong Trousers, I think, is the most popular one, and it is easy to see why. So for the moment, I’ll pick that. It might be a different one tomorrow.
I don’t know if you’ve seen it Lee, but, I just watched “In This Corner of the World” on Netflix. Quite heartwrenching, but an excellent Japanese animation film.
I’m hopelessly out of date, but from way-back-when, my faves are:
Spirited Away
Lilo & Stitch
… for completely different reasons.
The Incredibles.
So much good work in so many areas (story, humor, pacing, editing, the characters, the score, animation, voice actors, contemporary topics, villian psychology).
It’s a toss up between Meet the Robinsons and Wall-E
A Charley Brown Christmas. Love the music score and the message.
