  1. I grew up in a small town, and now I live (just outside) a big city. I think I prefer the big city, because there are more opportunities — more concerts, more restaurants, more bookstores, more parks, more of just about everything.

Still, I don’t think I’d live right downtown. Tall buildings blocking the sun is depressing to me.

  2. Both have positive points…
I grew up in a town of 2,100 people in the ’50s and ’60s. It was grand to be able to ride my bike all over town and to know people in all parts of the town. I raised my daughter in a small town of 2,5o0 and then moved to a larger town of 20,000 when she entered junior high. She knew all her classmates and lots of town people. She later moved to Boston for graduate school. And I followed after I retired and lived in Belmont (from which I could see Boston skyline from one of the hills there) for 3 1/2 years. I loved it there also, with all the opportunities it has to offer.

If I decided to move now (I’m back in the 20,000 population town), it would be in a smaller town near a big city like I did in Belmont.
